Conflict Management for a Culture of Peace

Traditionally, conflicts were addressed only after they occurred, but current approaches include conflict prevention, transformation and remediation. In this course we will critically analyze certain assumptions of conflict theory and learn new approaches based on transformations in normative patterns of thinking and acting, both individually and collectively.


Target Population:

Meant for all those who wish to develop their abilities to foster a conflict-free culture.


Performance Goal:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to better manage conflicts from a preventative, transformational and remediation perspective.


Learning Objectives:

In order to achieve this goal, during the course students will learn to:

1. Redefine conflict and critically analyze the assumption that it is a human and social necessity.

2. Replace it with a new conceptual framework of conflict centered on prevention, transformation and remediation.

3. Explain several historical ‘referents’ and contemporary benchmarks that exemplify the application of this new conceptual framework in practice.
